Incorporating Video In Web Design

If you are designing a new website, you have probably already given a lot of thought to what you want it to include. You have developed a comprehensive description of the services and/or products you offer. You have compiled a lot of images, not just relying on text descriptions. You have made sure to collect testimonials from previous customers (haven t you?) But one element you may not have thought of is video.

Just as consumers graduated from the pre-Internet idea of calling a phone number and requesting a brochure or catalog, to wanting instant access to a website with abundant detail about every detail of your business, they are now becoming used to having ready access to videos with even more information.

Videos can play several roles in selling a customer on your service or product. You might give a simple tutorial an illustration of your product in action. You might give a demonstration of the process you use in providing services. This can augment a consumer s confidence more than a simple picture.

In fact, a well done video can create confidence even more than a trial of the product itself. Case in point: McDonald s recently produced a video detailing the production of chicken nuggets. Nearly everyone has consumed chicken nuggets, but many of us are left with lingering doubt as to the quality of what we just ate. McDonald s released this video to inspire confidence that they don t have anything to hide about chicken nuggets that they are made from wholesome ingredients, and that the consumer has open access to the production process. Your product may not be facing such an uphill battle as McNuggets , but your openness about how you make it can go a long way in inspiring consumer trust.

Another way to use video to inspire trust is simply to introduce yourself. The Internet is known for its anonymity and facelessness. Consumers are impressed when you make yourself available as a person to them, in a sense. You are letting them know your face and your name, showing that you personally stand behind what you are selling. When they see you face to face on a video, they have the chance to see the way you meet their gaze, at least figuratively, and gauge your honesty for themselves.

Finally, video keeps consumers on the page longer. You don t want to invest in web marketing to bring them to the site, only to have them scan it and move on. Once they settle down to watch a video clip, they will spend longer on your site and have time to focus their attention on the rest of the content as well.

So take the time to develop web video that will enhance the effectiveness of that well-designed website marketing. And make sure you have a quality video. Have you ever edited a video to have smooth, quality transitions between high-quality clips with the best perspective to present the subject advantageously? Yeah, I haven t either. You need quality equipment, quality software and experience, and most of us don t have those. So find a quality web design service that can do this for you. You provide the honesty and the innovative product. They ll provide the expertise.
