Need an interior decorators opinion? Does Vertical wall trim look bad next to windows?
Very small living room, 12′ x 20′ with 3 windows 4′ x 3′, 7′ tall ceilings with 2″ 5/8 wall trim going horizontally around the walls at 3′ high dividing smooth painted paneling on the bottom from painted cross stitch wall paper on the top. Can you visualize this?
My dilemma is. The windows were replace by a hack job carpenter. The windows were smaller than the size of the hole he cut out on the inside by 6″ on all sides. I have repaired all the sheet and have a clean smooth finish on all sides.
Now how do I match, blend, or change the intersection of painted pattern wallpaper to my smooth window area?
OPTIONS:
1) texture the upper area above the wood trim in the whole living room?
2) get matching wall trim and 45 cut and run the trim vertically to the celling about 8″ from the
window covering the transition line?
Allot to read, but any input we be appreciated.
PS. 1 bedroom rental unit in low income area
For option #1 — I do not understand how just texturing the wall above the window will help the 6″ gap between the wallpaper and the new window.
For option #2, it would look very odd to have wood trim running up the wall along side all three windows. This will visually chop up the room and look awful.
You may be better off to either strip the wallpaper or add very wide trim around the window to conceal where the new wallboard ends and the wallpaper begins.
If I were the renter, I would just paint it all and hang a curtain rod wider than the window to cover the wallpaperless area with drapes. If I were the landlord I would opt for a very wide molding around the window; perhaps using a 4 or 5 inch board followed by a smaller edging moulding that tapers down to cover the wall/wallpaper seam.
